XMX issues with knobs

Hi I bought my XMX new last halloween and the knobs are already starting to act up. How would I go about fixing this issue? Is this a software or hardware issue?

I bought a used SSP and the encoders were jumping around a bunch, stuttering and other strange things. I ended up replacing the encoders entirely. Not something for the novice to do for sure, and I doubt it is much different on the XMX. The multi-layer PCB introduced some challenges with inner layers acting like heat sinks, making clearing holes very problematic. In any case, replacing the encoders fixed everything for me.

Hi There, Thank you for responding! I’ve been wanting to use my XMX for soo long. To replace the encoders did you have to do any soldering?

Yes. You have to unsolder the old encoders, and solder in the new ones. The problem with the SSP is that every center leg of the encoders is soldered to a hole that connects to a inner PCB layer (most likely a power plane) and removing the solder from it, to insert the new encoders’s leg into it, was VERY problematic, even with the correct tools (solder suckers). The internal plane acted as a heat sink, and I could never melt the solder long enough to suck it out (fear of damaging the pads). I ended up bending the center leg at an angle and tack soldering it to the top pad surface (they are through plated holes). I don’t know if the XMX is any different, but I doubt it would be. Like I said, not something a novice should do, especially without all the tools. I consider myself fairly experienced, and it was no fun for me to do it.

Thanks for all this information. I really appreciate it. I’m not a person who can solder. I used to, but I’m not great and I don’t have a lot of patience. I think I’m going to try find someone who will solder them for me. I hope this repair won’t be expensive. I like the XMX and I want to use it again tho this is a drain on my finances. Again I appreciate your explanation.
