In support of above @IvanS, I’m all for using encoders, if this does not conflict with anything else.
My reason for this is that when I am in the moment and have an idea, I want to be able to get their fast, prioritise the notes first and then the modulations/ratchets afterwards. IMO all this is fine tuning, and you have already achieved so much in a short space of time.
As for numbered steps, if you look at most products with multi functions, it is usually done by templates, print, or modelled into unit. I have the DFAM, thanks to Moogmusic, I am considering a template printed on card with screen cut out and marking step numberings, settings around the screen, this will slot over my Befaco nuts at top.
