Since you used the phrase “…it’s still under development…” I wanted to chime in with a thought: I would instead characterize the SSP as “still being improved upon.”
By the standards of most of the modules I own, and even more of the software I own, the SSP has been completed, and is stable and dependable. But unlike most of those other items, the SSP is being plussed on an ongoing basis, growing with new features, and is otherwise still in a state of “becoming.”
For a single module, it’s easy to see it as expensive and large, but it’s a bargain in both cost and size for the myriad roles it can play in your system. It walks a line between being a typical computer (which is an entirely different solution/tool/experience) and a more typical module with only one function or grouping of related capabilities.
And, like a select few of my other favorite instruments, the SSP doesn’t cut ANY corners of sonic quality, physical durability, or processing power. (Just don’t max out its resources and then try to double or quadruple the sample rate, as another thread was curiously attempting–!) ️
