Hi, I am looking for a list of “normal” scales files (e.g. major, minor, diatonic mode, etc), I found on the Scala but I can’t found the “normal” scales". Are there any list of “normal” sale files can share or download? Thanks so much.
coincidentally, I researched this quite a bit last week !
unfortunately, I could not find any…
this led me to the inevitable question - why?
why, if microtonal is a super set of normal scales, would no-one ever code up the ‘normal scales’. is this just because there is no interest in the microtonal community?
so whilst i didn’t find any, i came across Servish on youtube, his introduction is really very interesting, and worth watching.
but he also has created a nice tool to create scales,
from here creating ‘normal scales’ is very simple
create new equal temperament, accept default 12 divs, 2/1 interval
this gives you a chromatic scale
(you can export this to scala, and give a name)
now to create variations (e.g minor), we need to select the relevant ‘notes’.
modify -> mode
now we can specify the ‘scale’’ in intervals,
e.g. a major scale is 2 2 1 2 2 2 1,
you might also see these written as whole/half steps
e.g minor is W-H-W-W-H-W-W . which is the same as 2 1 2 2 1 2 2
finally sometimes they’ll be written as notes in the scale
e.g. major might be written as 2 4 5 7 9 11 12 (or similar 0 2 4 5 7 9 11)
this is what the second ‘base note’ option is used for in modify mode.
as you’ll see with the generated files, it would be ‘easy’ enough to create these without a tool,
but i think this tool makes it a bit easier.
Ive just not got around to doing it yet… as i then got lost in the fun of microtonal scales
Somebody uploaded scale files before though I don’t test those.
