Announcement: Percussa XMX

thanks.

ok, so having Trax run on the SSP has been part of its design from the beginning (and actually how I initially developed it)
as of now, Trax can run as a plugin within Synthor (on the SSP), with an interesting ‘twist’.

also my ‘Trax Host’, which is the standalone form running on the XMX, is designed to also run on the SSP - I just need to do some minor tweaks (and testing) to get this working.

theres some ‘details’ about this that I don’t want to get into yet…as these lead into future possibilities.

I do want to get this all setup for the XMX release.

though, I admit , I’ve lost a bit of motivation/momentum after SB push…
partly because summer has arrived here in Spain, but also after so much coding, I really need a break… in particular to make some music ( * )

but I do need to get back to it, to just tie up a few loose ends before release.

( * ) I sometimes get quite fed up, that I have all this music gear, and realise Ive not made music for too long, as I’ve spent all my (spare) time coding (albeit for music devices).
I also don’t think this is good for my coding/design either…
I like to code based on my musical needs, and that means I need to be actively making music

Yes I know what you mean - I too have other music related ‘stuff’ that sort of gets in the way of making actual music. :face_with_raised_eyebrow: Take a well earned break (by the sounds of it) - sometimes a few days or so off doing something different is a great balancer

yeah, its a tough balance especially when trying to push stuff ‘out of the door’

anyway, been doing some more in this area, but I’ll continue the discussion on my development topic, so we can leave this for the XMX questions etc.

is this shipping?
is there a new synthor for XMX and for SSP?

first xmx have been shipped on Friday.

I just got the XMX and try to understand UI difference between SSP and XMX.
On XMX, are there faster way to back to 2D grid patching screen besides pushing button for a few seconds and release it?

no, I don’t think so.

obviously, I cannot speak for synthor/bert,

however, I also adopted this method in Trax, and so my plugins, as I needed

  • the 8 ‘regular’ buttons for things like switches.
  • the two red function buttons for a quick ‘up/down’ between parameter sets.

so a long press was (I thought) an easy way (for users) to back out of modules.

I did also try combination key presses for ‘shortcuts’
e.g. up +down to return to patching, or up + button 1, access ‘edit’ screens
but, I didn’t really like it… and its also felt a bit ‘hidden’ , I thought users would get confused by it.

ofc, others may have different ideas on what works for them etc, but at the end of the day, I (as a dev) have to go with what I feel works best… unless consensus can be achieved amongst others.

btw: probably best to have these kind of discussions in separate topics?
there are a set of categories for XMX e.g. #xmx-questions #xmx-features-and-ideas

it would be nice if the XMX could be used as an (USB) expansion of the SSP (audio/cv ins/outs)
